Message from Head- 1st June Update

As you will know, the government wishes to see a return to school for some pupils from 1 June 2020.  For Broomhill Juniors this would mean re-opening the school to Year 6 Pupils on or after that date. For Headteachers and governors to thoroughly assess whether it was safe for this re-opening, we have needed to consider guidance from the government, guidance from our local authority and our own school health and safety policies, which take into account our individual school context.

After careful consideration we have made the decision that we will NOT be able to open our school from 1 June to the children identified by the government (Year 6). This decision was not made lightly, but as you know, the safety and well-being of our staff and pupils remains our highest priority.

This decision was based on these key factors from our risk assessment:

  • We are still awaiting delivery of some hygiene equipment.
  • We are still awaiting for PPE to become available for order and delivered to school.
  • Safety checks (water, gas, electricity, alarms) of areas of the school to be re-opened to be carried out.
  • A full deep clean of the whole school needs to be carried out.
  • A temporary replacement of our site manager needs to be arranged due to his absence.

While some of these areas will be quicker to solve than others, for the school to be deemed a safe and protective place for your children and our staff, all of these elements need to be addressed. Until they are, we will not be able to re-open to other year groups.

We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of this so we can keep you well informed about any re-opening at a later date.

The school will remain open to the same capacity it has been up to current; children of key workers, children with EHCP’s and other vulnerable children from 1 June. This provision, from this date, will now remain on the junior site full time so we will no longer be doing the alternate weeks with the infant school.

Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time.
